Fall 2016 Study Abroad Itinerary:

This picture reminds me of two things:

I: Not only was there beautiful landscape in front of us with endless sand and sky, but I gained a new appreciation for tap water.

II: Constantly thinking about how much bottled water we carry and the plastic waste produced opened my eyes.

Now, I try to not take drinkable water for granted.

Independent Study Project

For my independent study project I moved to Bangalore for one month. While there I conducted a case study looking at how changes in food patterns are indicators of socioeconomic change.

My work involved interviews with chefs, restaurant owners, managers, tech developers, consultants, and bloggers.

I found that the wide change in education, migration, income, health, and technology lead to the rapid shift from cooking in the house to a culture of dining out or ordering in. This had greater effects seen in gender equality and global food options.
